Architectural Philosophy

Toki's design philosophy provides the client with appropriate and creative solutions to user needs within given budgets and time considerations. We attempt to balance aesthetic, functional and symbolic elements of design. We strive for enrichment of cultural values, and respect for historical traditions.

Toki approaches each project as a new and special challenge. The success of any project is based on the long-term satisfaction of the owner/occupant and a sensitive and realistic response to environmental conditions and community concerns.

We emphasize design for people. Our philosophy of practice is predicated upon the interactive nature of the design process between the architect, client, end users, and expert consultants. We participate in the collaborative process that produces cogent design concepts by understanding human needs through careful examination, open communication and thorough evaluation of options.

Our client's design needs and organizational relationships are integrated into the total design process to achieve the mutual goals of creating exemplary places that allow and encourage people to live and work in an efficient, humane, and harmonious environment.

We do not believe that any one architectural expression is suitable to every physical setting. We believe in historical referencing by entering into a dialogue with the past and attempting to reinforce the spirit of the places in which we build. Our projects draw inspiration and build upon the architectural tradition of their respective locations.
